Royal Wines

The first traces of wine-like substances go back to sixty-million-year-old fossils, suggesting that our ancestors may have recognized the desirability of older grapes. It is thought that the art of wine-making started shortly after 6000 BC.

While winemaking methods may vary among winemakers, the fundamental steps in wine production remain consistent. The enchantment begins with harvesting. Grapes are the essence of wine, and wine grapes stand as the sole fruit capable of providing a reliable amount of sugar for sufficient alcohol.

Winemakers discern the optimal time to harvest the grapes through careful tasting. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, they undergo sorting and destemming, preparing them for crushing and pressing. For red wine production, winemakers allow the skin to remain in contact with the juices, whereas, for white wines, the skin is removed before fermentation. Fermentation, left to its own devices, occurs naturally within 6-12 hours with the assistance of wild yeast in the air. Many winemakers intervene during this stage killing wild yeast, and introducing their own to achieve more precise control over the final product.

Fermentation is the stage where sugars convert into alcohol and continues until no sugar remains. During clarification, the wine undergoes fining and filtration before being bottled. If a winemaker decides to further age the wine, they may opt for oak barrels, stainless steel tanks, or aging with the bottles

The Greeks associated wine with knowledge, considering it a divine gift to humanity. Wine has symbolized opulence, wealth, and luxury, with early wine drinkers holding prominent status. Royal Torarica is renowned as a haven of opulence and ultimate luxury, making it the ideal destination to savor the most exclusive and finest wines in Suriname.
